Linux Log (Part II): Tuesday, April 15, 2025
In my previous post, I expressed my frustration this morning with, well, everything about Linux. Mostly, though, it was Emacs. Nothing seemed to work the way I wanted, when it worked at all.
At some point, I slammed the ThinkPad’s lid closed so hard that I startled myself. I decided to step away for a bit. I made breakfast, puttered around my office, and tried not thinking about anything. It worked, but only for about an hour. I went back into the ThinkPad and started tearing things apart. Long story, short, Most of Emacs is working.
I’ve been trying to record my steps, but somehow all of the paths started working. This meant it found rg and xelatex, etc. What I think made this happen is that I uninstalled Emacs 30 and installed 29.4 via dnf. After a few glitches during startup, the things that were broken started working. I rolled back a few of the kludges I’d tried in frustration, and, for now, Emacs is usable for all the things I need it for, as far as I can tell.
